About the Author

I am Jennifer M. Bloom, a transgender woman and storyteller who believes in the transformative power of love, identity, and connection. I live in Caldwell, Kansas, with my wonderful husband, Jerry, and spend my days weaving stories that invite readers to laugh, cry, and grow alongside my characters. Through heartfelt tales of becoming and belonging, I hope each book leaves readers feeling seen, understood, and deeply moved, just as I feel every time I sit down to write.

Not Yet Jennifer

Thirteen-year-old Jamie Grant spends one sweltering Kansas summer balancing on the edge of who he is and who the world sees, keeping his true name, Jennifer, tucked safely in a secret diary. With his first love gone and high school looming, he clings to the memory of their stolen kiss and the hope that one day he won’t have to hide. Not Yet Jennifer is a tender, aching story about growing up invisible, loving in silence, and waiting for the moment when truth finally steps into the light.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Book Readers Review

I love stories like this plenty of magic and spells I also like how the fae were represented. I hope you make a sequel

Not Yet Jennifer by Jennifer M. Bloom is a tender, hopeful coming-of-age story set during the sun-soaked Kansas City summer of 1994. Jamie Grant’s last day of eighth grade doesn’t feel like freedom, it feels like the start of something harder, becoming herself. Holding onto a secret name, she begins building her identity in quiet, brave ways, a pink hairband tucked in her pocket, a diary signed “Jennifer,” a dab of “Blushing Rose.”

Bloom’s writing is warm, vivid, and accessible, filled with sensory detail, the hum of fans, the hiss of sprinklers, the weight of summer air. The novel’s structure, alternating close third-person scenes with heartfelt diary entries, flows naturally and draws readers into Jamie’s world. Those diary pages form the emotional core of the story, capturing her determination, “I don’t know if anyone will ever see me. But I won’t stop trying. Not yet. Not ever.”
